Nitrogen is drier and cleaner than air, which is why nitrogen spray guns are a great choice for cleaning products and surfaces in cleanrooms. The nitrogen spray guns dispense pressurized nitrogen, which can blow away microscopic fibers and dry dust, the smallest of particles that are normally difficult to remove (even with tweezers).

Also known as N2 spray guns, these blow off guns are made from PTFE or Teflon and poly, which helps them resist corrosion from acid fumes. When choosing a nitrogen spray gun for your facility, check to make sure that the male connector on the spray gun and the hose are the same size. N2 spray guns for cleanroom applications generally have ¼-inch or ½-inch fittings.

How Do Nitrogen Spray Guns Work

Nitrogen is an inert gas that’s cleaner and drier than air. When it’s dispensed from a nitrogen spray gun, nitrogen can effectively remove dirt and debris, and dry and clean surfaces.

Nitrogen spray guns are made from PTFE poly constructed material, also known as Teflon. This material helps eliminate nitrogen leaks. The nitrogen spray guns also have replaceable filtration pads, which further purify the stream of nitrogen – which is essential for cleanroom and sterile environments.

How To Use A Nitrogen Spray Gun

Using a nitrogen spray gun is easy! For best results, hold the nitrogen spray gun perpendicular to the surface or product that you’re cleaning. Then press the nitrogen spray gun’s button, and nitrogen will come flowing out from the spray gun. The strength of the stream of nitrogen gas, as well as how far the spray gun is from what you’re cleaning, will determine how fast the nitrogen removes particles from the surfaces that you’re cleaning.

It’s important to note that if the debris or dirt that you’re trying to remove is sticky, a nitrogen spray gun won’t be effective in removing it.

Also, as an important safety tip: Never aim a nitrogen spray gun at your own skin or anyone else’s skin, because the pressure from the nitrogen can cause severe skin damage and tears.

Choose The Nitrogen Spray Gun That’s Best For You

Nitrogen spray guns for cleanrooms, labs, and sterile environments come in a variety of sizes and configurations.

There are several factors to consider when choosing a nitrogen spray gun assembly.

Size Of The Nitrogen Spray Gun: Choose the size of the nitrogen spray gun you’d like, which will determine the power of the spray of nitrogen. We have 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch nitrogen spray guns available. Make sure that the size of the hose that you choose for your nitrogen spray gun matches the gun itself (1/4 inch or 1/2 inch size), so that the male connector on the spray gun will fit into the hose.

Spray Direction Of The Nitrogen Spray Gun: You can choose between a model that sprays the N2 gas straight out of the top of the nitrogen spray gun, or one that sprays it from the front of the nitrogen spray gun (at a 90-degree angle).

Hose On The Nitrogen Spray Gun: For the hose on the nitrogen spray gun, you can choose a blue, coiled polyurethane (PU) hose which is resistant to oils, solvents, and weak acids and bases. Or you can choose a hose that is PTFE (FEP). This Teflon hose is made by Chemours (a spinoff of DuPont), and it provides a higher level of anti-corrosion protection from harsh chemicals.

Trigger Location On The Nitrogen Spray Gun: You can choose a nitrogen spray gun that has a rear trigger that you depress with the palm of your hand, or a front trigger that you activate with your finger.

Nitrogen Spray Gun Parts

These are the parts on a nitrogen spray gun:
•spray gun – trigger style or straight – front trigger or back trigger - available in 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch width
•spray gun hose assembly (also known as tubing) – available in 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch width
•spray gun filters (also known as filtration discs) – available in packs of 25, 50, or 100

The nitrogen spray gun then needs to be connected to a source of nitrogen. In most cleanrooms, labs, and manufacturing facilities, the nitrogen spray gun will be connected to a tank of nitrogen or to a wall connection that leads to a source of nitrogen.
