FAQs About DuPont Tyvek Sleeves
DuPont Tyvek sleeves provide excellent protection (for the cleanroom and the wearer), and they’re lightweight, breathable, and tear-resistant.

Below are frequently asked questions about DuPont Tyvek sleeves for cleanrooms, labs, and manufacturing facilities.

What Are DuPont Tyvek Sleeves
DuPont Tyvek sleeves are protective arm coverings that are durable, lightweight, and breathable. Tear-resistant, the sleeves provide a barrier against particles, liquids, and contaminants.

What Is Tyvek Material
Tyvek is a unique, synthetic material that DuPont introduced in the 1960s. It’s manufactured using a process called flash spinning, which creates a durable, lightweight, non-woven fabric out of high-density, polyethylene (HDPE) fibers. In addition to cleanroom sleeves, Tyvek is also used in building materials, packaging materials, and more.

Are DuPont Tyvek Sleeves Used By Themselves
DuPont Tyvek sleeves are often used for targeted protection of the arms, when full-body coverage isn’t needed. The Tyvek sleeves are an economical option when contamination risks are limited to the forearms. Because the sleeves are so easy to put on and take off, they’re also often used for short tasks and/or as an added layer when transitioning between work areas.

Are DuPont Tyvek Sleeves Available In Different Sizes
With DuPont Tyvek sleeves, one size fits all (or most). The sleeves are 18 inches long, and the elastic at both ends of the sleeve (at the bicep and wrist) helps ensure a snug fit.

What Are DuPont Tyvek Sleeves Used For
In cleanrooms, DuPont Tyvek sleeves help protect the integrity of the cleanroom environment, by serving as a barrier to skin particles, hair, sweat, and other contaminants. Tyveks sleeves also protect people’s arms from particulates, dust, and other non-hazardous substances, as well as light liquid splashes of chemicals or cleaning agents.

In addition to cleanrooms and labs, Tyvek sleeves are also used in food processing, manufacturing, healthcare, and construction settings.

Are DuPont Tyvek Sleeves Comfortable To Wear
DuPont Tyvek sleeves are comfortable to wear, thanks to their lightweight, breathable design. Durable and tear-resistant, Tyvek is also soft and flexible. The sleeves aren’t restrictive, and the elastic bands on the sleeves provide a snug, but not tight, fit.

What Protection Do DuPont Tyvek Sleeves Offer
DuPont Tyvek sleeves offer a range of protection. The sleeves block fine particles, dust, and debris from coming into contact with the skin. They provide limited resistance to light splashes of liquids and low-concentration, non-hazardous chemicals. Tyvek sleeves also protect the skin from irritation and minor scratches and abrasions.

Are DuPont Tyvek Sleeves Waterproof
DuPont Tyvek sleeves aren’t fully waterproof, but they do offer limited resistance to light splashes.

Are DuPont Tyvek Sleeves Resistant To Chemicals
DuPont Tyvek sleeves offer limited chemical resistance. The sleeves are resistant to: particles and fine dust; light splashes of non-hazardous liquids; and some low-concentration acids and bases. The sleeves are NOT resistant to concentrated chemicals, strong solvents or corrosive substances, or high-pressure liquid sprays.

Are DuPont Tyvek Sleeves Reusable
To ensure cleanliness and prevent contamination, DuPont Tyvek sleeves are designed to be used just once.

Are DuPont Tyvek Sleeves Sterile
DuPont Tyvek sleeves aren’t inherently sterile, but we do offer sterile Tyvek sleeves (gamma sterilized to SAL of 10-6).

Can DuPont Tyvek Sleeves Be Used With Gloves
DuPont Tyvek sleeves are often used in conjunction with gloves, to ensure continuous arm protection, without gaps.

Are DuPont Tyvek Sleeves Compatible With Other Cleanroom Garments
DuPont Tyvek sleeves are often used with cleanroom coveralls, cleanroom suits, lab coats, frocks, and gloves, to provide additional and/or seamless coverage, without gaps.
